Robot Can Do Loads of Dishes
With high-end clients such as the Marine Corps and the U.S. Army, Google-owned Boston Dynamics can’t go out of its way to build just any robot. However, the robot maker has gone a different way with its newest creation that looks like some creepy hybrid of a dog, a dinosaur and a giraffe.
Known as SpotMini, this robot is certainly not cute and might give you nightmares despite being highly functional. It’s equipped with an arm that gives it the ability to carry out various activities such as loading the dishwasher, peeling bananas, delivering cans of soda, and even dancing, and even slips on a banana peel.
Weighing about 65 lbs. and much more agile than its predecessors, SpotMini is all-electric and can go for 90 minutes on a single charge, depending on what it’s doing. In addition to being quieter, SpotMini has depth cameras, a solid state sensor, as well as other sensors in the limbs to aid in navigation.
In a video that was posted on YouTube, the robot is seen walking around the house doing various chores and even serving his master a drink, though it doesn’t do it in a very graceful manner.
It’s not yet clear why the robot is shown in a house environment since they’re often designed for military use. Nonetheless, it’s a cool robot that may soon start haunting kids in various homes across the globe.
