GoPro’s Foldable Karma Drone Fits into Your Backpack
The wait is finally over. We’ve spent months waiting for GoPro’s first drone, and one look at this new amazing machine will tell you that the wait was worth it. A deeper peek will tell you that every penny of the $799 you will shell out for it is probably worth it.
The GoPro Karma is a compact quadcopter that was launched at a special event in Nevada, along with the two new imaging marvels that are the Hero5 and the Hero5 Session. Cost-wise, the $799 price tag seems perfect for the Karma, especially if you take into account all it has to offer.
The versatility of the Karma is its most distinctive feature. Its foldable rotors mean that you can pack it into your backpack without much of a fuss, and the easy-to-use clamshell-shaped touchscreen controller gives you the feel that you’re handling just another gaming device.
The three-axis stabilizer is retractable and if you don’t want it on the Karma, you can always use it on the ground with the Karma Grip for some handheld footage. Although features such as auto-follow and obstacle avoidance are not yet a part of Karma’s list of offerings, the drone is already being compared to the DJI Phantom 4 for its sheer brilliance in the department of versatility.
You can either buy the drone separately for $799 or choose from two bundles – $1099 for the Karma and a Hero5 or if you can make do with the Hero5 Session, just $999. The Karma also works well with the Hero4. So, if you already have one and are happy with its performance, all you have to do is buy a Karma drone to go along with it!
The Hero5 and Hero5 Session cameras, with improved functions and an integrated waterproof solution, will go on sale on October 2nd. For the Karma, the wait is a bit longer. GoPro’s first drone will hit the shelves on October 23rd.
