Drone Surfing is now a Thing – and It’s Cool
Since they came into the limelight, drones have been used not just for war, but for a lot of other cool activities such as delivering products, farming and fishing. However, a drone company has now taken the use of drones to whole new level by introducing drone surfing.
It looks like the company, known as Freefly Systems, anticipated that man might not need kite surfing in the distant future. So they’ve built a drone that’s strong enough to tow a surfer across water. As shown in this video, the drone that’s known as the Alta 8 octocopter has been tested, and the results are extremely impressive. It’ll not only reinvent the sport of kite surfing, but is also something of a blend between skimboarding, skateboarding, kite surfing and wakeboarding, but on a hi-tech level.
We’ve been here before when a powerful, but smaller drone pulled this kid on snow, but this one is even cooler and we think will open up a whole new set of opportunities for thrill seekers. But the question that really comes to mind is whether this could actually become an Olympic sport and given what new ‘sports’ have been introduced to the Olympics in recent years, we think this one should be given serious consideration. Could you imagine how completely awesome it would be to see the world’s best athletes and some of the world’s best technologies battle it our for world supremacy? We think it would be the most watched sport of any Olympic.
Just take a look at this video and say hello to drone surfing, a very cool new sport where waves aren’t even necessary, but you’ll need a bit of cash as the drone will set you back a cool $17,495. So start saving.
