These two dogs, who are rescues themselves, have just adopted two orphaned ducks.
At Somethingcool, we’ve often documented some of the unlikeliest animal friendships like the chilliest of the animal kingdom, but none will melt your heart in the same way as these two rescue dogs that have sparked one of the internet’s best friendships with a pair of adorable ducklings.
In what the owners of the two dogs named Pikelet and Patty Cakes refer to as “foster bro extraordinaire,” it’s apparently evident that the canines didn’t want chew duckling toys or play endless games of fetch anymore: all they wanted were ducks. Yeah, that’s right, real-life ducks. While the two dogs loved each other dearly and would spend days playing with rubber versions of pond-dwelling ducks, all they really wanted were little duck siblings to nurture and play with not for the entire day, but for the rest of their lives.
At first, it seemed like a far-fetched dream until, one day, it came to fruition when their owners brought home two ducks named Penguin and Popinjay from the Wollongong Animal Rescue Network. The two dogs took such a liking to their new siblings, and because the birds are so tiny, the canines spend most of their time charmingly protecting them instead of playing with them.
This extraordinarily cool story of the dogs and ducklings from Sydney, Australia, has been highlighted in a series of heartwarming photos on social media platforms under the name Life of Pikelet.
