Fake News. Real Disaster. Looks like fun!

Like everything else, there’s a little ‘disruption’ going on in movieland. And usually with disruption, we, the people, benefit from it – yay – and that is most certainly the case when it comes to the upcoming film, “Special Correspondents“, which will debut worldwide on Netflix April 29th.

In addition to writing and directing the film, Ricky Gervais also stars in the comedy, which is a remake of “Envoyés Très Spéciaux”, a French comedy released in 2009. In a press release, Netflix Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, commented,

“Special Correspondents is classic Ricky Gervais: smart social satire with heart. It’s the kind of great grown-up comedy that studios rarely make anymore, one that’s perfect for Netflix members around the world.”

Gervais commented on working with Netflix, saying, “Having shaken up the TV industry, Netflix is about to do the same to Hollywood. It’s great to be part of the changing future. Ted Sarandos is the new Godfather of entertainment and he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.” Apparently, that offer was more than about money: it was about creative freedom.

The movie has been accepted into the Tribeca Film Festival, debuting on April 22 – and on his website, Gervais says the whole cast will be there. In the meantime, have a look at the trailer – rather than try to describe it, just watch and you’ll get the drift!
