The big screen version of the mega popular video game looks as good as the game.

It’s undeniable that Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed video game has been one of the most incredibly successful gaming brands in the past decade. Even with that, Ubisoft and 20th Century Fox have proved beyond doubt that they’re aiming higher by turning this hugely popular video game into a movie project.

But as most gamers and moviegoers will horribly remember, game-to-movie adaptations have always seemed to result in epic failures. From Super Mario Bros, Street Fighter, Hitman to Silent Hill; these are some classic and immensely successful video games that have turned into nightmares when they were pushed onto the big screens. Despite all these, Michael Fassbender is ready to take a swing and we’re told Assassin’s Creed will be an entirely different story.

According to the movie’s trailer that premiered on Jimmy Kimmel Live the other night, it will not follow too much in the footsteps of any of the game’s existing series. The plot is based on Fassbender, a former death row inmate, being sent by Marion Cotillard back in time to the period of Spanish Inquisition with the main aim of altering the genetic memories that were left by an assassin ancestor.

The movie that will drop later this year on December 21st is directed by the talented Justin Kurzel, who has previously made award-winning Snowtown and the gritty Macbeth movie. Going by this captivating trailer, it’s fair to say that Assassin’s Creed looks to be a resolute blockbuster project that stands to cash in on a massively successful gaming franchise.
