It is undoubtedly true that balloons have a certain magical touch that captures the attention of kids and grownups alike. These colorful and inflatable rubber objects are known to be a symbol of celebratory mood in any event be it a wedding, a birthday event or any other party. Now, imagine what could be the result of a clear tabletop held aloft in the air with bright floating balloons instead of the traditional table stands. That appears to be what one furniture designer from London is up to.
Christopher Duffy, of Duffy London, has managed to come up with a mind blowing design known as UP Balloon Coffee Table where eleven balloons appear to hold up a glass tabletop. This is a clever illusion that gives the impression of a glass table surface being held aloft by red, gold or silver balloons. This effect, which is popularly known as the trompe l’oeil effect is not very easy to achieve, but brings a good level of fanciness to the coffee table.
Even though the delightful tabletop appears to be fully held aloft by the balloons, it is actually toughened on the ground by metal resin composite and toughened steel rods that perfectly give it a feeling of weightlessness and a sturdy base. Duffy is popular for his out-of-the-world furniture designs having previously designed a wildly popular glass underwater topography map table.
On his latest UP Balloon Coffee Table design, Duffy has produced 25 pieces only that are available in gold, red and silver balloons with one piece costing around $11,750.
