Finally a film adaptation of the cult game ‘Metro 2033’ is in the works and we can’t wait for it.
If you’re in love with the Metro 2033 franchise, from the video games to the impressive book lineup, here’s some great news for you. There’s a ‘Metro 2033’ film in the works, and the amazing team behind the venture includes the author of the original work Dmitry Glukhovsky, Solipsist Films’ Stephen L’Heureux of Sin City fame and Michael De Luca of the X-Men franchise, The Social Network, Ghost Rider and Moneyball fame.
Two video games, the first released in March 2010 and the second in May 2013, and a whopping 80 books make up the popular franchise. This is the first time a feature film will be made out of the storyline that revolves around a World War III survivor and his quest to face subsequent challenges to form a new society with his comrades. Set against the backdrop of the subway system in Moscow, a fallout shelter in the event of the depicted nuclear conflict, ‘Metro 2033’ has turned out to be one of the most popular worlds in the creative realm of recent years.
Despite the natural transition of a hit storyline into the visual medium, Glukhovsky had previously chosen to see his work transform into a video game, rather than find the big screen. This time however, the author has decided that he has found the right people to work on the adaptation.
Speaking to Variety magazine, Glukhovsky revealed his relief on finding a team that he could trust his creation with.
“My novel and I have been waiting for this to happen for the last 10 years I have previously been extremely careful about handing my baby over to Hollywood producers for adaption for a feature film, but now I feel that it has landed in the right hands. De Luca and L’Heureux have a great vision for this project, and I feel it’s an honor to work with them,” the post-apocalyptic franchise founder said.
While we are used to the video game versions of Glukhovsky’s work, the film may end up being different, since it follows the details laid out in the novel, rather than a work on the lines of the games.
‘Metro 2033’, whenever it finally hits theaters, is sure to be quite an interesting journey.
