Mad Max-Inspired Wasteland Weekend was Lit
For many mortals, the notion that the end of the world may just be around the corner might seem scary, but for these Mad Max-crazy festival goers, a post-apocalyptic event in the middle of a scorched Californian desert seem to awaken their inner madness.
This Wasteland idea is similar to the Burning Man festival, only that it has no Kim Kardashians attending because no gawkers are allowed. Known as the largest post-apocalyptic festival in the world, this annual event is held in Mojave Desert every September.
This year’s event, which was held from September 22 to 25, was wild in every sense imaginable. Attendees came dressed as War Boys and a host of other characters, most of them in combat boots and showing off their unique custom-built vehicles inspired by the “Mad Max” movies.
The merciless dust of the desert didn’t hamper the mood of the revelers as they compete in bungee fights, souped-up survival vehicles and of course the weirdly-elaborate costumes. It becomes even more immersive thanks to the DJs, live rock bands, bonfires, fire dancing and other circus acts.
As if that’s not enough, these hardcore revelers used a dog’s skull for ball sport. The amount of gun turrets and armed metal spikes on display will shock you and proof that you’ll need to be more than just tough to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.
