This Japanese Baker has Designs on Your Bread
There isn’t much to bread really. Whether it’s White, Wheat, Whole Grain or Rye, bread’s pretty much just that – bread. And even its fancier cousins like Pretzels, French Bread, Croissants, Bread Sticks and even Bagels are quite consistent in the way they look.
Well, one Japanese baker (and baking teacher) is out to change all that, and the products from Ran are surely a colorful twist to the boring old bread that we are used to, and it’s a welcome change indeed.
The colors that are used to put life into the bread are all natural too. Whether it is vegetable colors or colors from roots, or the magical colors, taste and aroma of plain old chocolate, the ingredients are completely safe.
As far as the designs go, Ran draws inspiration from just about everywhere, from popular cartoon characters to her own imaginative textures.
So here’s some bread coming to life with a leopard print. (Never thought we’d see leopard-print bread!)
Here’s one with zebra prints on it.
Is this a lemon or is it bread? It’s bread for sure, but the similarity and intricate design makes you look twice!
Snoopy finds a cozy spot in Ran’s special illustrated bread too.
And smiley faces.
However, the ones that are closer to home and heart are the designs based on the crayon drawings her son comes up with. And there are quite a few that find their way into this mother’s extraordinary baking technique.
Here are some cute little bees that her son has drawn.
And here’s the bread that has drawn inspiration from the drawing.
Here’s a butterfly, followed by the bread that looks just like it, how cool.
And here are some flowers that have found their way from the child’s cute little drawing to his mother’s unique bread.
There’s even a strawberry birthday cake that has come alive!
