Train-Mad Grandpa Builds a 3,000sqft Model Railway
When train aficionado Roy James was banished to his garden shed by his girlfriend, who didn’t share that same obsession, little did they know that it would be the beginning of a 20-year labor of love and ended up building a railway model that he now calls Dream City Railway.
For the past two decades, the 72-year-old pensioner from the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, England has built a huge collection of railway and train models. This impressive collection that is said to be worth approximately $357,000 and features more than 400 train coaches and wagons, 16 working stations and even has its own town.
James, who’s a former pub landlord, started off small to fulfill a childhood addiction to trains, but one thing led to another, leaving him with impressive train models. While his longtime partner is less enthusiastic about this cool creation, James admits that his children and grandchildren love playing with his unique collection.
“My children and grandchildren love the trains and the stations, but my partner doesn’t want anything to do with it,”
he said. They’re nonetheless exciting models.
