Blurring the Lines between Glass and Stone
Stockholm-based designer Erik Olovsson of Studio E.O is a multidisciplinary artist. On top of being an exceptional storyteller, Olovsson has always possessed a knack for being immensely creative whether it’s about making furniture or designing just about any product.
As shown in his latest series titled ‘Indefinite Vase,’ Olovsson’s many projects always have an incredible narrative about them. This project was driven by the challenge of trying to blur the interaction between two conspicuously different materials (stone and glass), which he flawlessly achieves. The Swedish artist combines marble slabs such as granite and onyx with fluid glass to create a collection of stunning sculptural collections that has made him very popular on social media right now.
“When creating these pieces, I often do not know what the result is going to be,” Olovsson says of his project.
True to his words, Olovsson likes the challenge that the unpredictable nature of his materials bring. In the end, however, they produce calm visual effects that captivate the viewers’ attentions in an infinite way. Whether it’s about the strength or fragility of the pieces, this is a project that unintentionally symbolizes that we continuously yearn to manipulate the unchangeable difference between stone and glass.
Surprisingly, Olovsson beautifully achieves this with his ‘indefinite’ pieces.
