The shingles that are emblazoned with personal messages will capture your attention the moment you come close to this spectacular hilltop porch. From the onset, you’ll easily realize this is a quiet place, perhaps the most perfect place to enjoy some quiet meditation time.
Located in the Winterfold Forest in Surrey, England, this simple pavilion was commissioned by Surrey Hills Arts and created by Giles Miller Studio. Known as the Perspectives Installation, it’s an elliptical-shaped structure that’s situated on top of the hill, but along a picturesque walking route.
It’s made of steel framework and nicely covered with cedar wood shingles that make it very attractive. The hand-made shingles are placed at specific angles to make it easy for visitors to scribble seeable personal messages.
To prepare the place for the structure, it had to be cleared and flattened.
“This site is at the top of a natural panorama, so we had to clear and flatten it for the piece,” Miller said. “The perspective structure has an elliptical shape and is placed on top of an overlapping surface to give the entire project an organic architectural reference that’s inspired by the natural surroundings,” he added.
It certainly has a cool poetic look about it, something akin to this rainforest chapel. You’ll surely enjoy the view that this peaceful and serene environment exudes.
