Yes, Doctors and Lawyers are on the list – but there are other jobs that just may be a surprise.
While the old paycheck is only one element of of total compensation, it is an important one for many according to Glassdoor, an online job and recruiting website, stating that in a recent survey almost 70% of people regard salary and compensation as top considerations when choosing a place to work.
Glassdoor’s recent report, entitled, “25 Highest Paying Jobs in America for 2016”, was created to give people a better idea of what jobs provide the highest salaries. Commenting on the report, Dr. Andrew Chamberlain, Glassdoor Chief Economist stated,
“This report reinforces that high pay continues to be tied to in-demand skills, higher education and working in jobs that are protected from competition or automation. This is why we see several jobs within the technology and healthcare industries.”
There’s no doubt that pay is among the leading factors most job seekers weigh when determining where to work.
Dr Chamberlain added, “However, our research shows that a big paycheck isn’t necessarily tied to long-term satisfaction in your job. Instead, when we dig deeper into what keeps employees satisfied once they’re in a job and with a company, we find that culture and values, career opportunities, and trust in senior leadership are the biggest drivers of employee satisfaction.”
Note that the report, and thus the following list, is wholly based on people with the listed jobs sharing their salary information with Glassdoor over the past year. Also, C-suite level jobs are excluded.
Without further adieu, here are the top ten jobs from Glassdoor’s list, along with the number of current openings listed on their site. We’ve added some general info on educational requirements just to add a little perspective – it’s probably no mistake that the jobs featured below require some serious front-end time commitment.
